Extraordinary Human Abilities

Just the other day I was reading this really interesting article about human abilities. Most of these gifts are neurological functions, but there are a few that are actually learned skills. Below is a link to the article where you can read about these cool abilities.

I must say that I have a bit of synesthesia because sometimes I am ticklish by sound. I also carry somewhat of an absolute pitch because I can easily tell when a note is not in tune.

The Daniel Fast

A funny thing happened yesterday. I'm not quite sure how we got on the subject but I was explaining to my little brother what a "Daniel Fast" was. Well I'm not exactly sure about the story but I'm pretty sure in the book of Daniel it tells what happened. Regardless, I explained to him that a Daniel fast was no meat and no sweets - pretty much just vegetables, fruits, and water.

He took it in for a second and said, and I quote, "Did they even have sweets back then? Oh, yeah they did. They had donuts." My first reaction was, 'you've been watching way too much vegetables', but he said to look it up in the book of Leviticus. Much to my surprise, he was actually correct. If you don't believe me, I'll even include the scripture below...

1 “When you bring a grain offering to the LORD, the offering must consist of choice flour. You are to pour olive oil on it and sprinkle it with incense.
(Skipping to verse 4)
4 “When you present some kind of baked bread as a grain offering, it must be made of choice flour mixed with olive oil but without any yeast. It may be presented in the form of cakes mixed with olive oil or wafers spread with olive oil. 5 If your grain offering is cooked on a griddle, it must be made of choice flour and olive oil, and it must contain no yeast. 6 Break it into pieces and pour oil on it; it is a kind of grain offering. 7 If your offering is prepared in a pan, it also must be made of choice flour and olive oil.
- Leviticus Chapter 2, New Living Translation

Nifty, eh?

Pixar's Hidden Easter Eggs

I've been kind of anxious to go and see Wall-E when it hits the theaters. I just watched this youtube video about the ideas of it and Pixar's sneaky plan.

BEWARE! - Be Aware

Let's take a trip down a quite and peaceful path. The sun is high over head gently warming you and there is a lovely slight breeze that keeps you comfortable. As you are enjoying this moment, you begin to notice things that you do not appreciate. Personality traits are coming up that you do not like. Even though the day is beautiful and the setting is perfect, it is turning into something you hate because you are surrounded by pet peeves and bad characteristics. This is your journey into "Self Awareness".

Nice intro, huh? Anywho, I discovered something about myself yesterday that kind of irked me, and it's my own flaw too. I realized I'm bossy - to an extent. Now we all appreciate being able to give orders to other people and be in charge of a group or whatnot but sometimes I act a little to much on impulse. Maybe it's the thing that I know that I can do a job more professionally than someone else, so I tend to tell them how to do it. At the time I would say that I'm giving you tips and helping you, but that's just the nice way of me saying, "You're doing it wrong!". I think this is something I need to work on.

Here's one that everyone will agree to...
I'm very cynical.

'Nough said...

Issue three is one of those that every employer hears that is rarely true: I take on too many responsibilities. For some odd reason it all goes beyond the whole thing of "just saying 'No'". No for me, it's the thing of "STOP VOLUNTEERING!" When someone needs help, I'll usually say, "Oh, I can do that for you." or "Don't worry about it, I'll take care of it". I think that has been happening alot lately. In one day alone, I had to take care of the following list between the times of 9:30 and 2:30 at school:

Fix the tricaster
Finish the Beauty and the Beast stuff
Burn a copy of "B&B"
return the DVD duplicator
give video DVD's to Mr. Nardecchia
Cleanup the TV Studio
Buy "The Cold War"
get my saxophone from the bandroom
fill out my A.P. Signup sheet and get it signed by the teacher
fill out my tablet project sheet
Cleanout my locker
take care of a teacher's old computer
delete old files off of 10 computers
burn a data DVD of my personal files at school to transport them home
cash checks at the bank
return some photos to another teacher after scanning them
capture, edit, and burn a movie for my science teacher.
cleanout the video storage room
run a video camera over to the EPAC

Think I did enough in four and a half hours?

This has been my self awareness lessen for the day.
